Steve was an outstanding all–around basketball forward Newark ever had in a long time. His mastery in long range shots, jump shots and inside shots and inside shots made Newark and Union League the strong contenders at the state district and regional tournaments. He scored a team–high 21 points as his Newark team captured the EAAD championship, was chosen the Most Valuable Player and a trip to the national championship in which Newark was placed fourth. A three–time All–Star Steve was the top scorer of the EAAD tournament – 71 points in 1950 and 63 in 1951. He played in five EAAD tournament, 220 points for an average of 16.5 a game. He was schooled at American School for the Deaf. |
